Title: It's Rude To Stare (Final Remix)
Artist: Chid Manning
Description: Written during the depths of my depression - life is dreadful and you are welcome to come and experience it with me, just don't stare at me!
Notes: Written during a depressive time in my life, following the breakdown of my marriage. In just a few short weeks I lost my home, my wife and children (she moved them out, they are still alive and well), my car and my job. All I had left was a single bed, my computer and my guitar.

Again the vocal effects are mostly to try and improve on the flat and noisy sound that my poor quality equipment was prone to producing - still is but working on it. In addition the 'echoed' vocal style was inspired by Pink Floyd's Southampton Dock (Final Cut album) where the lead vocal is low and quiet in the foreground, but the harmony, a couple of octaves higher, is being virtually screamed in the background. It's as if the lead vocal is what the man is saying, quietly and controlled, while the screaming in the background is his emotional response to the situation, which he is trying to stifle but is struggling to escape and almost succeeding.

I also love the phrase 'quiet desperation' from that song and find that phrase fits a lot of tracks, including (in my humble opinion) the truly excellent Creep (Radiohed).

Yes, I have tried writing songs with a more cheerful bent, but they always get twisted into the same sad mournful state. As I tried to write in one of my other songs,

'It's hard to write a love song when you cry yourself to sleep at night.

It's hard to find the right words when all you want to do is scream.'

I will record that someday soon - probably.
Lyrics: Join me in my hole
It's deep enough for two
It's dark enough for death
It's lonely and confused

Join me in my pain
It's strong enough to share
It's long enough and wide enough
To find you anywhere

But would you dare?
And could you care?

Join me in my life
There's no looking back
There's no looking forward either
Everything is black

Join me in my world
It's big enough to share
There's so much space around me cos
There's nobody else there

But would you dare
And could you care

I know you're out there
But didn't your mother tell you
That it's rude to stare?

I know you're out there
But didn't your mother ever tell you
That it's rude to stare?
